What is Compassionate Care?

Compassionate Care supports families when the demands of terminal Illness seem overwhelming.  Our specially trained volunteers provide support for the patient and their family.  The program is designed to enhance the quality of life while maintaining the patient in their home with familiar surroundings and in the company of loved ones. Services are also available for individuals living in assisted living or long term care facilities.

We provide aid and comfort for the patient and family in their dealing with the traumatic experience of terminal illness, and support the family during bereavement.  Compassionate Care offers emotional support and services that are companionship in nature.

Compassionate Care is a community-based program incorporated in 1985.  We are governed by a Board of Directors that represent social, religious, health, and welfare organizations.

Through the Compassionate Care program, a tremendous amount of love is both given and received.  There is a special awareness that comes from this experience.  There is an unparalleled assurance felt when the family is able to say, “I did everything humanly possible for the one I love.”

Admission to the program is free and available to anyone provided they:

  • desire the support and services of Compassionate Care and the family also concurs.
  • have a terminal or life threatening illness
  • have someone they can designate as a primary care person who is able and willing to take responsibility for the patient.

Compassionate Care services are integrated with the needs and resources of the patient’s family.  We encourage the family to continue to share in the care of the patient as much as possible.
